The Information Technology (IT) Cell of the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU) serves as the central agency for planning, implementing, and maintaining the University's digital infrastructure and information technology ecosystem. The Cell is committed to supporting academic excellence, research, extension, and efficient administration through the adoption of modern information and communication technologies.
The establishment of the IT Cell is guided by the recommendations of the Committee constituted by the University to study and formulate a strategic roadmap for IT integration and digital transformation. The Committee was entrusted with assessing the existing IT infrastructure, identifying opportunities for technology adoption, and recommending a phased implementation plan for the University.
To establish AVFU as a digitally empowered University by delivering innovative, secure, and sustainable technology solutions that strengthen education, research, administration, and outreach services.

The Information Technology (IT) Cell is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and maintaining the University's digital infrastructure and technology ecosystem. The major responsibilities of the IT Cell include:
Development and maintenance of the University Website.
Administration of servers, networks and campus-wide IT infrastructure.
Student Information System (SIS) and Academic Management System.
Learning Management System (LMS) and E-learning initiatives.
Research Information Management.
Cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery planning.
Cloud-based services and digital governance.
Technical support to University offices, constituent colleges and directorates.
IT training, capacity building and user support.
The IT Cell Committee was constituted vide Notification No. AVFU/R(K)/09/2025-26/1906–1916 dated 04 November 2025 to study and recommend a strategic roadmap for establishing and strengthening Information Technology initiatives in the University.

The Committee is entrusted with assessing the University's IT infrastructure, recommending modern technology solutions, exploring Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging digital technologies, fostering collaborations with national and international organizations, and preparing a comprehensive roadmap for the University's digital transformation.
The day-to-day operations of the IT Cell are supported by a dedicated technical and administrative team responsible for maintaining the University's digital infrastructure and providing technical support across all campuses.
