CENTRAL LIBRARY

Introduction

The Assam Veterinary and Fishery University Library, Khanapara can be regarded as the knowledge hub of the readers community of the Institution. It was established in the year 1969. It aims to provide quality knowledge and useful resources to the users of the University. The Library plans to incorporate more advanced technology in its functioning in the near future. The Library is committed to serve the institution and the society at large. The Library follows the Open Access System.

Library Infrastructure

Presently the Library is in-housed in a two storied building covering the following area:

  • Ground Floor : 345.31 Sq. m.
  • First Floor & Top Floor : 389.91 Sq. m.
  • Extension : 219.36 Sq. m.

Services

Following services are being rendered from the Library, on regular basis. All registered members of the library users are stakeholders of these services:

Rules of the Library

  1. Silence and strict discipline should be maintained in the library. Every one shall ensure that no reader should feel disturbed in their study by any act of his/her.
  2. Books, journals, etc. taken from the shelves for reading should be left on the tables after use and not to be replaced on the shelves.
  3. The Library staff on duty has the right to request a user to leave the premises if he is found to be violating any of the Library rules.
  4. Chairs and tables and other library equipment, fittings and furniture may not be marked, defaced, disarranged.
  5. Library member has to keep his/her Library Cards with utmost care. Loss or damage of Library Card is an offence. A penalty of Rs.20.00 per Card will be charged for that. Loss of the card must be reported in writing to the issuing authority immediately.

Library Patrons

Membership to this University Library is open to its teachers, scientists, Research Scholars, students (UG & PG) and non-teaching staff.

The membership is open to students, teachers, scientists and staff of the University. Students can be enrolled as member of the library by depositing Rs. 1000/- as security money that is refundable at the end of the academic programme. Number of books to be issued for different categories of members as follows:

Under Graduate 5 Books 30 Days
Non-Teaching Staff 2 Books 15 Days

Circulation Policy

  1. Books can be reissued once on or before the due date for the next defined issue period for the respective category.
  2. Books not returned within or on the due date will be charged Rs. 1.00 per day per book.
  3. All borrowers must settle overdue loans before they are permitted to borrow again.
  4. Members proceeding on long leave or on deputation etc. exceeding three months should return the documents those are borrowed.
  5. Certain documents are intended to be used only in the library premises. These include reference books, periodicals etc.
  6. Books lost or mutilated (tearing of pages, underlining, making notes, damaging of binding and the like) by any Library Member will have to be replaced the same copy with latest edition (HB or PB) by himself/ herself. Failing to replace the book will cost 25% more of the actual price of the lost book. If the damaged document belongs to a set, then the user is responsible for the entire set. Refunds will no longer be given when lost and paid materials are found and returned.
  7. While leaving the library, user should ensure that they carry only those books that are duly issued on their names, otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against them.
  8. When Books are issued, students should check the pages of the issued books and if pages are found missing, they should report the same to the Librarian before leaving the Counter. On returning the books, if pages are found missing, then the last borrower of the book shall be held accountable for the missing pages and shall accordingly be fined.
  9. Borrowing privileges may be suspended or revoked by the librarian for violation of existing rules and regulations.
  10. In case any member leaves the Institute for any reason he/she has to take Library Clearance Certificate by clearing all dues during his/her period of service/study, without which he/she will not be allowed to leave the Institute at any cost.
