SALIENT ACHIEVEMENTS AND TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPED
The Directorate of Research plays a pivotal role in promoting scientific innovation, technology development, and collaborative research. The achievements presented below reflect the University's commitment to excellence in research, technology transfer, livestock improvement, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth in the Veterinary and Fishery sectors.
1. Research Projects and Funding
- At present, 57 ongoing extramural research projects are being implemented under the directorate with a cumulative funding support of approximately Rs. 65,00,00,000.00 (Rupees Sixty-five crores only).
- On an average, the directorate generates an annual revenue of around Rs. 60,00,000.00 (Rupees Sixty lakhs only) from various farms, diagnostic services, consultancy and other research-related activities.
2. Development and Commercialization of Technologies
More than 70 innovative technologies developed by faculty members of the University have undergone internal and external validation processes, out of which seven technologies have already been transferred to private industries for commercialization.
- The first indigenous thermostable vaccine of the country against Newcastle Disease was developed by a group of scientists under the directorate and subsequently transferred to VH Group (Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group) for commercialization.
- The first indigenous rapid antigen detection kit for African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) was developed and launched, and the technology is presently under commercialization through M/S GeNext Genomics, Nagpur, Maharashtra.
- An area-specific mineral mixture, "AAU-VETMIN", was transferred to M/S Sashi Devi Bajaj Pvt. Ltd., Guwahati, Assam for commercial production and dissemination.
- A Medicated Urea Molasses Block - Herbal Anthelmintic, "AAU-VET MUMB", technology was transferred to M/S SDB Agrochem, Subham Buildwell, Zoo Road, Guwahati for commercialization.
- A pet treat technology, "AAU-Vet Dog Nibbles", was licensed and transferred to M/S Guadalupe Bakes for Paws, Guwahati, Assam for commercialization.
- A value-added product, "AAU-Vet Dog Loaf from slaughterhouse byproducts" was licensed and transferred to M/S S.H. Agrovet Clinics Pvt. Ltd., Kailashpur Kachari Garigaon, Guwahati, Assam for commercialization.
3. Animal Breeding and Genetic Improvement
- "Kamrupa", a dual-purpose chicken variety, was released in the year 2015 under the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Poultry Breeding, Khanapara, Guwahati.
- "HD-K75", a pig variety developed under ICAR-AICRP on Pig, Khanapara, Guwahati, was released in the year 2016.

At the initiative of scientists of the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the directorate, several indigenous livestock and poultry breeds from Assam have been registered by ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal:
- One cattle breed - Lakhimi
- Two buffalo breeds - Luit and Manah
- One pig breed - Doom
- One goat breed - Assam Hill Goat
- Two duck breeds - Pati and Nagi
- One geese breed - Rajdigheli
4. Assisted Reproductive Technology and Rashtriya Gokul Mission
- The Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM)-funded IVF Project being implemented under the Directorate was virtually inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on 11th October 2025.
- The project has already initiated production of embryos of Sahiwal, Red Sindhi, Gir, Holstein Friesian (HF), Lakhimi and crossbred cattle, and successfully transferred 89 embryos under field conditions.
- Assam's first IVF calf named "Navami" was produced through embryo transfer technology under the project.
- A Professional Training Institute has been established under the project in Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science for training and manpower development in the livestock sector.
5. Infrastructure Development
- Two Feed Mills have been established at Livestock Research Station (LRS), Mandira and Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVSc), Joyhing with financial support of North Eastern Council (NEC), Govt. of India. Both units are presently operational.
- A 180-sow capacity Mega Seed Farm is in the process of establishment at Livestock Research Station, Mandira with funding support (Rs. 3.57 crores) of NEC.
6. Diagnostic and Research Facilities established in PPP mode
- An Advanced Animal Disease Diagnostic Facility (AADDF) has been established under the directorate in PPP mode with partnership of M/S Krisshna Enterprise, Guwahati.
- Another diagnostic and research facility has been established under the directorate in the name of Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Research Centre (PDRC) with partnership of M/S North East Agro Products and Services, Jorhat.
7. Industry Collaboration and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)
The Directorate has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with several industries and private organizations for collaborative research, technology transfer and commercialization. Important collaborators include:
