Central Instruments Facilities

ABOUT US

The Central Instruments Facilities (CIF) is a premier service centre of the College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University. The establishment of this centralized facility marked a significant milestone in strengthening the research infrastructure of the Veterinary Faculty. It was created to meet the growing demand for advanced analytical and research facilities required by various departments and research scholars of the university.

The CIF was established in 2006 under the "Strengthening and Development of Agricultural Education in State Agricultural Universities" programme of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Government of India. The fully operational facility was formally inaugurated by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University on 23 September 2008.

While developing the facility, the requirements of researchers from universities, research institutes, and industries across North-East India were also taken into consideration. Today, the CIF supports multidisciplinary research by providing access to sophisticated scientific instruments essential for advanced research in veterinary, biological, and allied sciences.

The facility houses several state-of-the-art instruments, including:

  • Table Top Ultracentrifuge
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
  • Real-Time PCR System
  • PCR Thermal Cycler
  • Vertical & Horizontal Gel Electrophoresis Units
  • Double Beam Spectrophotometer
  • Gel Documentation System
  • Semi-Automated Cryotome
  • Trinocular Fluorescence Microscope with Photographic Facility
  • Ultrasonic Processor
  • Table Top Refrigerated Centrifuge
  • CO2 Incubator
  • Electronic Microbalance
  • Automatic Blood Cell Analyzer

The availability of these modern facilities enables scientists and research scholars to undertake high-quality research, generate reliable scientific data, and strengthen their ability to secure competitive research funding from national and international agencies.
