I warmly welcome students, faculty members, researchers, staff, alumni, and visitors to the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU). Since its establishment, the University has been steadily progressing towards becoming a centre of excellence in veterinary, animal husbandry, dairy and fishery sciences through quality education, research, extension, and innovation. The Office of the Registrar plays a pivotal role in the University's administration by ensuring the effective implementation of statutory provisions, academic regulations, and administrative policies. We remain committed to providing transparent, efficient, and responsive services while supporting the academic and administrative activities of the University.

AVFU continues to strengthen its institutional framework by enhancing academic governance, improving student support services, modernising administrative systems, and fostering effective coordination among its constituent colleges, departments, and administrative units. Our efforts are directed towards creating an efficient and learner-centric academic environment. The University is also focused on expanding its infrastructure, strengthening research and extension activities, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and integrating modern technologies into teaching, administration, and scientific research. These initiatives aim to address the evolving needs of the livestock, dairy and fisheries sectors, particularly in the North Eastern Region of India.

Looking ahead, AVFU aspires to establish itself as a nationally recognised institution known for academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact. Through collaborative efforts and good governance, we remain dedicated to building a vibrant academic ecosystem that contributes meaningfully to sustainable development and the welfare of farming communities. The Office of the Registrar will continue to uphold the principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, and service excellence while supporting the University's vision of becoming a leading centre of excellence in veterinary and fishery sciences.

General Information

The Office of the Registrar, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University, Khanapara Campus, was established in the year 2025 following the formation of the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University as an independent University. The Office functions as the central administrative authority of the University and is responsible for the management and coordination of academic, administrative and establishment matters of the University. Prof. (Dr.) Birendra Kumar Sarmah joined as the Registrar of the University on 31st October 2025. Since its establishment, the Office of the Registrar has been functioning with the support of dedicated officers and staff members to ensure smooth administration and effective implementation of the policies, statutes and activities of the University. The Office of the Registrar is entrusted with the responsibility of managing and coordinating various academic and administrative matters of the University. The major activities and duties of the Office are outlined below.

Activities and Duties of the Registrar

  1. Administration and supervision of academic, establishment and general administrative matters falling under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Registrar at Khanapara.
  2. Maintaining official coordination and correspondence with external experts, members of Selection Committees, External Examiners and other visiting authorities associated with University activities.
  3. Organising and facilitating meetings of the statutory bodies of the University, including the Board of Management, Finance Committee, Academic Council and other official committees held at Khanapara.
  4. Functioning as the liaison office of the University for communication and coordination with the Government of Assam, Government of India and various external agencies and institutions.
  5. Maintenance, preservation and updating of service records and personal files of officers, faculty members and employees of the University.
  6. Management and maintenance of academic records of students of the constituent colleges, including processing of grades, publication of examination results, and issuance of transcripts, certificates, grade sheets and other academic documents.
  7. Conduct and coordination of external examinations of the Faculty of Veterinary Science in accordance with the regulations and guidelines prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).
  8. Carrying out additional responsibilities and assignments entrusted by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time for the effective functioning of the University administration.
