Activities

• Preparation of master plans for infrastructure development of the University.
• Planning, execution, and supervision of construction projects, including academic buildings, laboratories, hostels, administrative buildings, and residential quarters.
• Maintenance, renovation, and repair of existing civil infrastructure across all constituent colleges, research stations, and other University establishments.
• Planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems, street lighting, and allied utilities.
• Maintenance of campus roads, drainage systems, water supply networks, and sanitation facilities.
• Supervision of campus beautification, landscaping, horticulture, and environmental improvement programmes.
• Preparation of technical estimates, architectural drawings, tender documents, and project reports for infrastructure development works.
• Management and maintenance of University residential quarters, hostels, and common utility services.

Responsibilities

• Technical scrutiny, monitoring, and quality control of all engineering and construction activities undertaken by the University.
• Supervision and monitoring of works executed through contractors, Government agencies, and other implementing organizations.
• Ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, building codes, and statutory requirements.
• Coordination with Government departments, public sector organizations, and funding agencies for the implementation of infrastructure development projects.
• Maintenance of records relating to engineering works, buildings, assets, and physical infrastructure of the University.
• Promotion of energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable, and green campus initiatives.
• Execution of all other engineering and infrastructure-related responsibilities assigned by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time.

Organizational Structure

The Directorate of Physical Plant functions through a well-defined organizational structure headed by the Director of Physical Plant, who reports to the Registrar, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University. The Directorate is supported by an Executive Engineer, who supervises the technical, engineering, administrative, and maintenance activities of the Directorate.

The engineering wing comprises Assistant Engineers (Civil and Electrical) and a Subordinate Engineer, responsible for planning, execution, supervision, and maintenance of civil and electrical infrastructure across the University. Administrative and financial functions are managed by the Senior Accountant, Senior Administrative Assistant, and Junior Administrative Assistant.

The Directorate also includes technical support staff such as Plumbers and Plumber Helpers, along with Muster Roll Workers engaged in water supply, electrical maintenance, carpentry, and other general maintenance activities. In addition, Contractual Workers are engaged as required to support various engineering, maintenance, and official works of the Directorate.

Through this multidisciplinary workforce, the Directorate ensures the efficient planning, execution, operation, and maintenance of the University's physical infrastructure while supporting the academic, research, extension, and administrative functions of Assam Veterinary and Fishery University.
