DIRECTORATE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION

ABOUT

General Information

The Directorate of Extension Education of the Veterinary Faculty was established in 1978 at the Khanapara campus to oversee the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary extension activities of the erstwhile Assam Agricultural University. The Directorate is responsible for promoting human resource development through skill upgradation training programmes, frontline demonstrations on livestock production technologies, and various extension activities. It also organizes seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and technology transfer programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of rural communities engaged in the livestock sector.

In keeping with the mandate of the Assam Agricultural University as provided under its Act, the Directorate has been actively engaged in imparting refresher training programmes to technical personnel of the State Departments of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Dairy Development, and Fisheries. These programmes are designed to disseminate the latest advancements in livestock production technologies while enhancing the management and communication skills of field-level functionaries.

The Directorate also undertakes the responsibility of providing training and technical guidance to educated unemployed youth, farmers, and farm women across the State. Through these initiatives, participants are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required for adopting improved livestock farming practices as a sustainable source of income and livelihood.

In addition, the Directorate promotes farm advisory services through farm demonstrations, farmers' fairs, awareness programmes, and other extension activities conducted regularly. It also serves as a vital link between research and the farming community by facilitating the transfer of research findings and recommended technologies from laboratories to the field through appropriate extension methods, communication channels, and collaborative efforts with various agencies.
