Salient Achievements

  • A prototype low-cost farmer-friendly spray aerator was designed and developed for small-scale fish farming.

  • A low-cost Solar Hybrid Kiln Dryer was designed and developed for hygienic dry fish preparation for small and marginal fish farmers.

  • The department standardized hygienic preparation processes for dry fish products from local small indigenous fish species using a solar mechanical dryer with electrical backup.

  • A total of 29 gene sequences of identified bacterial isolates from fermented fish product (Shidal), collected from different sources and laboratory-prepared samples, were submitted to the NCBI Gene Bank. Accession numbers MW434043–MW434056 and MW433830–MW433844 were obtained.

  • Out of the 29 identified isolates, two lactic acid bacterial (LAB) strains, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus pobuzihii, were characterized and identified as potential starter cultures for accelerating the preparation of Shidal.

  • Technology on hygienic dry fish production and packaging was successfully transferred to 200 beneficiaries across four locations in the aspirational districts of Barpeta and Baksa, Assam.

  • Four Technology Demonstration Centres equipped with complete fish processing and packaging facilities were established across four locations in the aspirational districts of Barpeta and Baksa, Assam.
