Salient achievements
- Department has produced more than 31 numbers of M.V.Sc. and 11 numbers of Ph.D. students.
- Faculty members of this department are actively engaged in teaching along with research, extension as well as institutional building activities.
- The Department has conducted a National Conference on One Health in association with IAVPHS Society, India.
- Dr. R.A. Hazarika, Professor & Head received Fellow, IAVPHS for his contribution in teaching, research and extension works related to Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology.
- Dr. R.A. Hazarika, Professor & Head has received Certificate of appreciation for involvement as Core group member in Research Capacity Building Programme by Public Health Foundation of India, Gurgaon held at New Delhi.
- Dr. Archana Talukdar, Assistant Professor received the Professor Mahendra Pal Zoonoses Award conferred in the International Symposium organized by IAVPHS.
- Students of the Department have been appointed as faculties in different educational institutions as well as Veterinary officers, Government of Assam.
- A total of 15 numbers of students of the Department cleared ICAR NET.
- Numerous research work has been conducted in the Department by the PG students on sero-prevalence and risk factor analysis of different zoonoses and pathogens of public health significance including brucellosis, bovine tuberculosis, leptospirosis, cysticercosis, Listeria monocytogenes, rotavirus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella species, Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus aureus (CoNS), methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), mosquito-borne flaviviruses, Japanese encephalitis virus, West Nile virus, etc.
- Research on other important public health issues has also been conducted viz., bacterial biofilm, quality evaluation and detection of adulterants in raw and pasteurized milk, microbial quality assessment of meat contact surfaces, bacteriological quality and molecular detection of food borne bacterial pathogens in ethnic food, evaluation of groundwater qualities near livestock farms, screening of medicinal plants for anti-cancer activity and collection of data for evaluation of farmers demographics.
- Dr. Iarisa Umdor, an MVSc Student was a member of the team ONE TRIBE (a collaboration of Department of Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology, CVSc, Khanapara and Indian Institute of Public Health, Shillong) which bagged 2nd prize in the Idea One Hackathon-2025 an initiative of National Health Mission held at New Delhi on 21.11.2025.
