Salient achievements

• Cattle:
  • A pheromone based spray has been developed for enhancing reproductive efficiency of Lakhimi cows. Exposure to the pheromone spray results in resumption of ovarian cyclicity within 12 days of treatment thereby causing early attainment of puberty in heifers and onset of oestrus in postpartum cows.
  • Effective treatments have been evolved for treating repeat breeding, silent oestrus and anoestrus in crossbred cows.
  • A portable neonatal Intensive Care Unit for care and management of Puppies (PNICUP) has been developed.
  • IVF technology has been implemented under Rastriya Gokul Mission for producing elite embryos in cattle through OPU-IVF-ET technology for distribution at the farmer's doorstep and conservation of Lakhimi breed.
• Buffalo:
  • Suitable technique for preservation of buffalo semen in liquid and frozen state have been developed.
  • Reproductive pattern in swamp buffaloes have been elucidated.
• Goat:
  • A modified method of collection of semen from Assam Hill goat has been developed.
  • A suitable methodology for freezing of buck semen has been developed which was otherwise poorly freezable. Improvement in the post thaw quality of goat semen was achieved using different additives including nanoparticles. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticle bioconjugates have been found to effectively reduce apoptotic and acrosome reacted spermatozoa thereby improving the freezability and fertility potential of purified Beetal buck semen.
  • Cryopreservation of embryo and embryo transfer technology in Assam Hill goat were developed.
  • Techniques of in-vitro sperm capacitation and in-vitro oocyte maturation in Assam Hill goats were developed.
  • Proteomic studies of Assam Hill Goat buck semen has been carried out.
  • Quality frozen semen doses of Beetal and Assam Hill Goat are produced and supplied to Assam Livestock Development Agency, Khanapara for distribution to the goat farmers of different districts of the state.
• Pigs:
  • Suitable techniques for preservation of boar semen in liquid and frozen state has been developed.
  • Regular production and sale of quality HDK-75 liquid boar semen.
