Salient Achievements

  • The 30-Sow Teaching Unit under the Department supplies 250-300 breeding piglets to the farmers, institutions and NGO every year. A total of 14 progressive breeders of Assam were trained by the Department under Hands-on Training Programme on 23rd June, 2008.
  • World Bank sponsored project Comprehensive Milk Producers Survey of Assam completed in the year 2007 in collaboration with ILRI.
  • NATP project on Upgrading of indigenous pigs and development of production package for NE Region in 2004.
  • MVSc degree completed : 96 Nos. and Ph.D. degree completed : 23 Nos.

  • Dr. N. N. Bora, Retd Professor & Head (LPM) was honoured with Jawaharlal Nehru Award by ICAR in 1975 and bagged AAU best Teachers award and Gold Medal. He was also awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Society of Animal Production and Management in its Annual Conference held in CAU, Aizwal in the year 2015.
  • Dr. J.P Bordoloi, Professor; Dr. J. Saharia, Professor and Dr. N.N. Bora, Professor & Head (Retd) were awarded the Dr. T. Prabhakaran memorial medal in 1999 by the Indian Veterinary Association for the research paper “Milk production under different categories of farm – an economic analysis. Indian Vet. J. 76(7): 621-624
  • Dr. S.M. Rahman, Retd. Professor & Head (LPM) was conferred the Fellow National Award by the Indian Society of Animal Production and Management in its XX Annual Convention & National Seminar held at NDRI, Karnal in the year 2013.

  • Dr. Jakir Hussain, Assistant Professor (LPM) was honoured by ISAPM with 3rd Prize for the Poster presentation of research paper entitled “Peak milk yield and days to attain peak milk yield of dairy cows under field condition of Assam state” in the National Seminar on “New Paradigms in Livestock Production: From Taditional to Commercial Farming and Beyond” & XX Annual Convention of ISAPM held at NDRI, Karnal w.e.f. 28th to 30th January 2013.
  • Dr. T. K. Amonge, Professor (LPM) was conferred the Fellow National Award by the Indian Society of Animal Production and Management in its XXI Annual Convention & National Seminar held at Anand Agricultural University in the year 2014.
  • Dr. J. Saharia, Professor (LPM) was conferred the Fellow National Award by the Indian Society of Animal Production and Management in its XV Annual Convention & National Seminar held at Anand Agricultural University in the year 2018 held at SDAU, Gujarat.
  • The LPM Department published the Indian Journal of Animal Production and Management (IJAPM) Volume: 28 Issue:3-4 to Volume:31 Issue:3-4. from 2013 to 2015.
  • Dr. Jakir Hussain, Assistant Professor (LPM) has been awarded the N.S.R. SastryEight Sisters NE for Best LPM Research for his oral presentation of research paper entitled “Effect of restricted suckling on the growth performance of Hampshire piglets” in the National Conference on “Innovations in Animal Production for Sustainability and Doubling Farmers Income &26th Annual Convention held at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur, Kerela (Kerela Veterinary and Animal Sciences University) from 23rd to 25th January 2019.
  • Dr. Monica Tissopi a M. V. Sc. Degree holder of the Deptt. of LPM has been awarded 2nd best oral presentation for her research article entitled “Effect of feeding probiotics and milk powder supplemented creep ration growth performance and feed consumption of pre-weaned piglets”in the Technical Session-I ofInternational seminar on ‘Animal Agriculture for doubling farmers’ income: Technology, policy and strategy options’ at C.V.Sc., Khanaparaw.e.f. 27th to 28thFebruary, 2019.
  • More than 250 research paper has been published in the various National and International Journals
  • Establishment of Sahiwal Unit under “Maintenance of pure breeds of Indian Milch cattle” Project at ILFC, CVSc, AAU (K)
  • More than 700 purebred Hampshire breedable pigs were sold and distributed to the states of Assam and adjoining states and various other voluntary organizations, entrepreneurs etc.
  • The Department of Livestock Production and Management hosted the National Symposium, 2010 on “Technology management, visioning and upscaling for accelerating livestock production” and XVIII Annual Convention of Indian Society of Animal Production and Management w.e.f. 11th to 13th November 2010. Alltogether 171 participants from across the country participated in the symposium.
  • The Department of Livestock Production and Management hosted the Sensitization and Installation Workshop of the NAIP consortium “Strengthening Statistical Computing for NARS” on 14th& 15th February 2013 in collaboration with ICAR-Research Complex, Umiam,Barapani (Meghalaya)
  • The Department of Livestock Production and Management hosted a faculty training course for newly recruited Assistant professor on the topic “Experiments to acquisition of data, statistical analysis and reporting” w. e. f. 23rd to 27th Jan. 2017
  • The Department of Livestock Production and Management hosted the ICAR Workshop on “Broad Subject Matter Area (BSMA)” for formulation of M.V.Sc. and Ph. D. Course Curriculum in the discipline of Livestock Production Management from 9-10th October, 2018.
