  • Hitherto considered to be non-pathogenic, Theileria orientalis is found to be one of main causes of anaemia of haemoprotozoan origin recorded from cattle in Assam and its successful therapeutic management evolved.
  • Identification of Boophilus microplus as a potential vector of T. orientalis in cattle of Assam.
  • Epidemiological investigation on vector borne parasitic diseases e.g. dirofilariasis, babesiosis, hepatozoonosis, ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis in dogs of Assam and identification of N.E. region as endemic area for heartworm and other protozoan parasites.
  • Demonstration of symbiotic existence of Wolbachia with Dirofilaria immitis of dog using electron microscopy and molecular techniques.
  • Record of several zoonotic parasites including Dirofilaria repens and Gnathostoma spinigerum.
  • Epidemiological studies of G.I. parasitism in dairy animals of Assam.
  • Enlisting of snails and Cercarial fauna in Kamrup district of Assam.
  • Holding of 23rd National Congress of Veterinary Parasitology, 12-14th December, 2012.
  • Award of 27 MVSC degrees and 13 PhD degrees in the field of Veterinary Parasitology.
  • Fully equipped with 10 faculty members for Teaching at UG and PG level in addition to respective faculty research and clinical diagnosis.
  • Completion of ICAR, DBT and State Govt. funded research Projects on Theileriosis, Fish borne zoonotic parasites, nasal schistosomiasis, hydatidosis and cysticercosis, Stephanofilariasis, blood feeding leeches, GI nematodes in goats and evaluation of anthelmintic resistance in Haemonchus contortus.
  • Identification of common parasitic diseases in livestock of Assam and their epidemiological investigation.
  • Identification of prevailing terrestrial and aquatic leeches and their infestation in domestic animals of plain and hilly tracts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Evaluation of hirudinicidal effect of some locally available plants including that of tobacco.
  • Evaluation of Benzimidazole resistance development in Haemonchus contortus infesting goats of Assam at parasitological and molecular level.
  • Development of herbal medicated urea molasses block for control of GI nematode parasitic load in goats.
  • Epidemiological investigation of vector borne parasites of companion animals (dog) causing dirofilariosis, babesiosis, hepatozoonosis, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis in Assam and other states of NE region.
  • Detail studies on the haemoparasites of cattle and identification of Theileria orientalis in cattle and T. luwenshuni in goats as the only Theileria species affecting the domestic ruminants of Assam.
  • Identification of Boophilus microplus as the probable potential vector of Theileria orientalis in cattle of Assam.
  • Epidemiology of GI parasitism in dairy animals of Assam.
  • Enlisting of snails and cercarial fauna in Kamrup District of Assam.
  • Detail study of several zoonotic parasites causing taeniasis, cysticercosis, hydatidosis, dirofilariosis due to Dirofilaria repens, Gnathostomiasis (Gnathostoma spinigerum) and Toxoplasmosis etc.
  • Development of laboratory facilities including establishment of a molecular laboratory for parasitological research.
  • Participation by faculty members time to time in National/State level seminar, workshop and training organized on different aspects of parasitic diseases and their diagnosis.
  • Providing parasitological diagnostic services in livestock of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh through Core Lab I of Advanced Animal Disease Diagnosis and Management Consortium financed by DBT, Govt. of India.
